Frequently Asked Questions
My one to one rate is from £70 an hour with slightly higher rates for Further Maths, Oxbridge or STEP lessons as these require more specialist preparation. My TMUA group lessons are £25 a lesson, for a course of 8 lessons. I am considering setting up a STEP maths class. This will be around £30 an hour, with a minimum of 8 lessons, should there be sufficient interest.
Passing exams is never easy and never more so than now. As I am both an experienced teacher, having taught in both independent and state schools and also an A Level Examiner I know exactly what is needed to get through these exams. I am also very experienced at explaining the underlying principles and the techniques required to tackle questions. Why not give a lesson a try and see if we suit?
Yes! I went to University of Oxford and gained an honours degree in Mathematics then, after working in industry and government for 15 years, then went to University of Nottingham and passed my PGCE in Secondary Mathematics with Distinction.
I have taught in both independent and state schools teaching maths, physics and computer science.
On line actually works really well. I use zoom and Miro - a whiteboard system. I find that, particularly A Level pupils, are very able to concentrate in on screen lessons. All my resources are adapted to use on line and it enables us to schedule a lesson which suits us both, without having to worry about transport issues.
For 1-1 lessons, no. 1-1 tutoring is a very personal thing, so I always say that we should have at least one or two lessons before deciding if we suit each other.
Once you have committed to lessons, please try to give me notice if you cannot make a lesson or want to change times. I have a very full timetable so cannot always switch to other times, or guarantee to have a space if you stop for a while.
For group lessons, you must commit to the full course - around 8 lessons - as it is not viable for me to run group classes without the full group in each lesson. Each lessn is recorded, so you can go back over it if you miss a lesson.
I understand that things can happen and try to be as flexible as possible. However, a cancellation made with 24 hours notice or less may be charged the full price of the lesson. If a lesson is frequently cancelled then I may request that you change the time or move to ad hoc lessons so that another pupil can use the time slot. For group lessons, it is not possible to rearange the lesson just for one pupil, but the lesson will have been recorded so you can review it later.
